The Map loader may not access any global state at all - everything it can touch must be exchangable.
Furthermore, if we want to sandbox each level, there may be no direct access to any kind of global state whatsoever from the play code.
This was done to ensure that this code only runs when the thinker itself is fully set up.
With a constructor there is no control about such things, if some common initialization needs to be done it has to be in the base constructor, but that makes the entire approach chosen here to ensure proper linking into the thinker chains impossible.
ZDoom originally did it that way, which resulted in a very inflexible system and required some awful hacks to let the serializer work with it - the corresponding bSerialOverride flag is now gone.
The only thinker class still having a constructor is DFraggleThinker, because it contains non-serializable data that needs to be initialized in a piece of code that always runs, regardless of whether the object is created explicitly or from a savegame.
This is to ensure that the Class pointer can be set right on creation. ZDoom had always depended on handling this lazily which poses some problems for the VM.
So now there is a variadic Create<classtype> function taking care of that, but to ensure that it gets used, direct access to the new operator has been blocked.
This also neccessitated making DArgs a regular object because they get created before the type system is up. Since the few uses of DArgs are easily controllable this wasn't a big issue.
- did a bit of optimization on the bots' decision making whether to pick up a health item or not.
Needless to say, this is simply too volatile and would require constant active maintenance, not to mention a huge amount of work up front to get going.
It also hid a nasty problem with the Destroy method. Due to the way the garbage collector works, Destroy cannot be exposed to scripts as-is. It may be called from scripts but it may not be overridden from scripts because the garbage collector can call this function after all data needed for calling a scripted override has already been destroyed because if that data is also being collected there is no guarantee that proper order of destruction is observed. So for now Destroy is just a normal native method to scripted classes
Since decals may have thinkers attached this will crash when such a savegame gets loaded, because the thinker lists get reset in P_SerializeThinkers, deleting any thinker that already was processed.
I also added an error message that immediately aborts the save process if such an out-of-sequence thinker is attempted to be written out.
This obviously breaks savegame compatibility again...
* Added falloff parameter to A_QuakeEx.
- Treated just like A_Explode's 'fullradiusdamage' parameter, where the quake will fall off from this distance on out to the edge. Default is 0, which means no falloff.
- Credits to MaxED and Michaelis for helping.
* - Added HighPoint parameter to QuakeEx.
- Allows fine tuning of where the quake's maximum or minimum occurs, in tics. This must be a range between [1, duration).
- For up or down scaling quakes, this sets the quake to reach maximum sooner or start minimizing later.
- For both, this indicates when the strongest will occur. Default is 0, or in the middle.
The original commits were nearly impossible to find in the convoluted commit tree, so I think it's preferable to have one clean commit instead.
- for quakes, making a distinction between circular and elliptic thrust is pointless, so the checks were removed and both paths consolidated. The elliptic code will do exactly the same for circles and there isn't even a performance difference.
- Converted P_MovePlayer and all associated variables to floating point because this wasn't working well with a mixture between float and fixed.
Like the angle commit this has just been patched up to compile, the bulk of work is yet to be done.
Patched up everything so that it compiles without errors again. This only addresses code related to some compile error. A large portion of the angle code still uses angle_t and converts back and forth.
This was to resolve some circular dependencies with the portal code.
The most notable changees:
* FTextureID was moved from textures.h to doomtype.h because it is frequently needed in files that don't want to do anything with actual textures.
* split off the parts from p_maputl into a separate header.
* consolidated all blockmap related data into p_blockmap.h
* split off the polyobject parts into po_man.h
- Converting the wave speed back to floats, since I'm using sin() instead
of the finesine table now.
- Pre-shift the quake intensities to avoid extra shifting in GetModIntensity.
- Loading old saves will shift the intensities to fixed point but will not
convert the fixed wave speeds to floats. The chances of this
being in a savegame where the speeds are non-zero is pretty much nil,
and int and floating point 0 are bitwise identical (not counting -0.0).
